EVENINGS OUT

Deception sweeps two pageants

by Jimmie

held on

The pageant of last summer, August 13 at U4ia in Cleveland, was the coveted Miss Ohio Continental Pageant (also known as the "Miss Don't Be Pulling No Shade, I Just Wanna Get Paid” Pageant). That evening, Ginger Manchester relinquished her crown. Judges for the night, in addition to myself, were: Greg Lakota, Patrick Fitzgerald, Erica Martinez (Miss Gay Cleveland North Coast), Big Mama, and Porsche Mercedes.

Back to the show. Andrea Michaels and Melissa Ross (Miss 20 years in the biz!) were emcees for the night. Each also served as performers along with Jennifer Phillips, Christina Richards, Chase Manhattan, Big Mama, and the reigning national title holder of Miss Continental from Chicago, Cézanne. The much advertised return of Desiré for the night did not happen.

Deception was the winner, with Jessica Michaels first runner-up; Karen Alexander, second; and Friday Foster, third.

Ownership of this pageant also changed hands days prior to the pageant, with the new owner being Charles Milsap of Brazen Exposure Publishing.

The quote of the night had to be Deception, when she said during the presentation segment, "I'd like to thank Mastercard and Visa for buying me the look of “nothing but fish"! Well, pass the tartar!

The Miss Big and Beautiful Ohio Pageant, presented by K & R Productions, was held at U4ia (no longer Lou4ia) on October 27. The 13 contestants were: Reba Perry, Latara Shaton, Toni Lopez, Felicia Fairchild, Cassandra Gay, Carolyn Russel, Jacqueline Fischer, Ebedah

JIMMIE

Miss Ohio Continental, Deception Minyo, Deception, Victoria London, Kari Nickels and Danyel Vasquez.

The stage was elaborately decorated in the Halloween spirit, and the program referred to this event as "A Nightmare To Remember." The "nightmare" was trying to read the program with all the typos! Then, to top it all off, on the last page of the program, the publisher advertises their services for more businesswell who would hire them? Here's a tip: title does not have three Ts. Get spell check!

Anyhoo, let me first say that the show ran until freakin' 3 am, with everyone and their brother standing in front of my table, right Big Mama? Titleholder Michelle Martin ended her reign as well as performing along with Jennifer Phillips (luv ya, mean it!), Jaclyn Rhodes (doing her Wynona), Isis, Cinnamone (breaking her heels), and the incomparable Melissa Ross (showing her support for the Indians) who also served as emcee.

Melissa has also been named one of the 50 most interesting people by Cleveland magazine for 1995-you go girl! Talent highlights had to be Deception-flawless in costume and lipsyncing; she was amazing! Felicia Fairchild drew great response with her huge rainbow set (how do they get that stuff there?), and Cassandra Gay is always an inspiring performer (she mentioned she wasn't up to this pageant, yes you were girl!) Most shocking had to be Coco Starr with her see-thru top and pasties.

Deception won the title, with Danyel Vasquez first runner-up. Kari Nickels and Cassandra Gay tied for second runner-up. Category winners were Latara Chaton for Presentation; Cassandra Gay for Interview; and Deception for Talent, Daywear and Eveningwear.

At the presentation portion of the pageant, Deception said that she would show three things-beauty, fashion and talent-and that she did! This has to be the year of Deception, her titles are Miss Numbers, Miss Ohio Continental, Miss Great Lakes Ohio and now Miss Big and Beautiful Ohio
